Statement
My work presents young Engelina Billauer reflecting onto a small puddle, with cracks indicating the rough and unstable ground she was on physically and mentally. The buildings around her are the camps where she was continuously forced into. Engelina communicated through sign language with her “handicapped” parents that had already passed away. Billauer’s signs, “I miss you” and “ILY”, which stands for I love you; thus escaping her illusive puddle into reality. The loving memories she had with her parents continued with her throughout the war. I too share her example of parental love bringing positivity and dreams of being free.
